BOLLYWOOD DANCE

Bollywood dance has its roots from indian Bollywood movies baced in Mumbai
The term is believed to have originated in the 1970's when India began producing
more films than the United States. Bollywood is currently the largest film production
centres in the world and a multi-million industry. The dance is a mixture of many different kind of dances such as indian classical
dance, folkdance ( bhangra; rajashani ) , jazz and hip hop.
In older Bollywood films, the dancing was primarily based on classical dance styles,
dances of historic northern Indian courtesans, or folk dances. In modern films, Indian
dance incorporates elements of Western dance styles, such as jazz and hip-hop. The
main character (usually known as the "hero" or "heroine") will often perform with a
troupe of supporting dancers.
The first Bollywood film was made in 1913, and by the 1930's over 200 films were
being produced annually. Bollywood's Golden age is considered to have started after independence from the British Empire in 1947 and until the 60's where many memorable romantic films were made. The late-60's and 70's was the gangster-era and it was here Mr. Amitabh Bachchan made his debut in Indian Cinema as the "angry young man".
Romantic films made a comeback in the late-80's and 90's and introduced Shah Rukh
Khan, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Madhuri Dixit and Aishwariya Rai.
In the 2000s, the world started opening up to Bollywood when the film standard
increased drastically.
The dance is funny and energetic and can also be soft and beautiful with delicate hand and face movements.
